Comprehensive Immigration Reform

The American system of immigration is broken and needs to be overhauled. Here in Hawaii, a great deal of our state, our churches and our families come directly out of the immigrant experience. Yet, our state experiences problems with the immigration system differently than most of the United States. We are concerned that family reunification for our Filipino, Tongan, Latino, Korean, and Chinese residents not be cut off from their loved ones by national reform efforts. There are families on Oahu who have been separated for a decade or more while waiting for their immigration paperwork to be processed.
